João Cancelo returns to Barcelona on loan from Al Hilal | OneFootball

João Cancelo has rejoined Barcelona on loan from Al Hilal until the end of the season and will wear number 2, the club said in a statement.

The Portugal international, a former Benfica player, returns to Catalonia after a previous loan spell from Manchester City. He moved to the Saudi side a little over a season ago and arrived back in the city on Monday, awaiting confirmation.

Cancelo sought a move due to limited game time at Al Hilal. Being left out of the club’s foreign-player list also hastened his exit, with the defender targeting more minutes and improved form.

He is aiming to keep himself in contention for a possible World Cup call-up this summer. The full-back had featured only six times for Al Hilal this season, totalling 469 minutes, with one goal and two assists.

Valued at 10 million euros, Cancelo departs Saudi Arabia looking to relaunch his season at Barcelona.
