João Diogo Manteigas has hit back at André Villas-Boas, urging Porto to settle what he says is owed to Benfica after the Porto president criticised Benfica in an article published in Dragões magazine.
According to Glorioso 1904, the former Benfica presidential candidate responded on Instagram, revisiting his 14 July 2025 stance on the emails case. He again referred to Villas-Boas as an apprentice.
In those remarks, he maintained that Benfica were not sanctioned either judicially or sportingly, while Porto, communications director Francisco J. Marques and Porto Canal content lead Diogo Faria were convicted, a ruling later confirmed by the Supreme Court.
He put the sum currently at issue at €770,000, a figure he regarded as low given how Benfica’s emails were used.
He also set out that, if elected Benfica president in October 2025, he would expect a single payment, otherwise Benfica’s lawyers would seek immediate enforcement, and he urged Villas-Boas to ring fence funds in the budget.
