João Gomes ‘close to joining’ Atlético Madrid, Flamengo could receive cut

João Gomes is very close to a move to Atlético Madrid, and Flamengo would pocket a share if the deal goes through.

According to Coluna Do Fla, Atlético Madrid would pay 39 million euros to Wolverhampton, with João Gomes having agreed a contract and the Premier League side close to accepting.

Flamengo hold 10% of any profit on a future sale and a further 4% via FIFA’s solidarity mechanism, which would total 3.59 million euros (about R$ 21 million).

Gomes joined Wolverhampton in January 2023 for 18.7 million euros, so the profit stands at 20.3 million euros, and the 10% is calculated on that amount.

While the move is being finalised, Flamengo turn to their next fixture. They face Estudiantes in the Copa Libertadores on Wednesday, 20, at 21:30 Brasília time.
