Joao Gomes joins Aston Villa in €40m deal from Wolverhampton | OneFootball

Aston Villa have signed Brazilian midfielder Joao Gomes from recently relegated Wolverhampton in a €40m deal, according to L'Équipe.

The Brazil international has 10 caps and departs after three seasons at Wolves. He made 41 appearances last season.

Villa have recently faced criticism over their Visit Rwanda partnership. The move keeps Gomes close to his former club, with Wolverhampton near Birmingham.

He replaces, in squad terms, Youri Tielemans, who has joined Manchester United for €41m.

Gomes is Villa’s third summer addition, following Modou Kéba Cissé from Lask for €5.5m and Swiss World Cup sensation Johan Manzambi for €60m.

Villa won the Europa League in May and will play in the Champions League next season. Their campaign starts on 12 August with the UEFA Super Cup against PSG, the Champions League holders.
