Joao Gomes has thanked Wolves after completing a 38 million move to Aston Villa, ending a spell of three-and-a-half years and 130 appearances at Molineux.
The player said in a post that the club welcomed him from day one and helped him grow as an athlete and a human being. He acknowledged the timing, after the club’s relegation from the Premier League, was not what he wanted, but felt he had given his best in every training session and match.
He will keep cheering for Wolves and remains grateful to the club and the city.
The Brazilian has been closely involved with the Wolves Foundation and regards that community work as his greatest legacy at Molineux.
He was a regular at Foundation activities and took a particular interest in the Wolf Words project, visiting schools that support children with speech and language difficulties. Gomes has a stammer.
He was named a PFA community champion earlier this year and was the club’s community player of the year last season.
