João Neves has revealed the players who shaped his game, highlighting Pablo Aimar and David Silva, both former Valencia CF players. The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder has been one of Europe’s standout performers this season, capped by a superb Champions League final.
According to Superdeporte, the Portugal international said his first idol at Benfica was Aimar. As he watched more European football, he came to admire Kevin De Bruyne and Manchester City players such as Silva.
That blend of creativity, vision and midfield control helped mould his style. At 21, he has rapidly established himself among the leading midfielders, forming a notable partnership with compatriot Vitinha and becoming integral to PSG’s set-up.
Real Madrid are among the clubs monitoring his progress as they look for a long-term midfield fulcrum.
Neves, however, has been clear about the present. After lifting the Champions League, he said he feels they are a true team, that he is very happy and hopes to continue with this group. He also set out PSG’s next aim, to defend the title next season.
