João Palhinha joins Tottenham from Bayern on loan

Tottenham have signed Joao Palhinha on loan from Bayern Munich, with an option to buy the midfielder for £27 million at the end of the season.

The move sees Palhinha return to the Premier League just a year after his high-profile switch from Fulham to Bayern, which cost the German side up to £47.4 million.

Although he’s under contract with Bayern until 2028, the Portuguese international struggled to nail down a regular place under new boss Vincent Kompany.

The loan deal with Spurs runs through to summer 2026 and includes a clause allowing the club to make the transfer permanent.

He’s the latest addition in what’s been a busy summer for Spurs, who’ve already brought in Mohammed Kudus, Kevin Danso, Mathys Tel, Luka Vuskovic and Kota Takai.

Tottenham will face Bayern in a pre-season clash on Thursday 7 August, before taking on PSG in the Super Cup the following Wednesday.
