João Pedro hat-trick gives Xabi Alonso winning start | OneFootball

Xabi Alonso's first game as Chelsea manager ended in victory, but it was João Pedro who stole the headlines with a brilliant late hat-trick in a chaotic 6-4 win over Western Sydney Wanderers.

Chelsea took the lead through teenage debutant Dastan Satpaev, only for the Australian side to respond with two quick goals as the Blues looked vulnerable at the back. Dário Essugo then capped off a well-worked move to send the sides into the break level at 2-2.

The goals kept coming after half-time. Dylan Scicluna put Western Sydney back in front before Jamie Gittens equalised almost immediately. Awan Lual restored the hosts' lead once again, leaving the Blues staring at defeat.

With the game heading towards another surprise twist, João Pedro took centre stage. The Brazilian forward scored three times in the closing stages, turning the game on its head and completing a superb hat-trick to give Alonso a winning start.

Chelsea continue their pre-season campaign on Saturday when they take on Tottenham in Sydney.
