Kenyan winger Job Ochieng has climbed from a family-funded shot in the Canaries to prominence at Real Sociedad. According to AS, his rise reflects persistence the club chose to back.
On seven February 2026 at Anoeta, he made his Primera División debut against Elche. He replaced Gonçalo Guedes in the 63rd minute, wearing 37.
Born in Nairobi on 17 January 2003, he reached Spain in 2020 after relatives funded a stint with C. D. Maspalomas. Early months in Gran Canaria were hard, with pressure to justify sacrifices at home.
A Basque delegate of the Global Ases agency opened the door to Zubieta. Luki Uriarte, Real Sociedad’s academy director, backed him and pushed for his signing. Ochieng arrived with an ankle problem, soon followed by patellar tendinitis, yet the club supported his recovery.
In summer 2022 he joined the structure at Real C, learning to blend his explosiveness with combination play. After a season in the third team he settled in Real B. In this third campaign he has become vital for Ansotegi’s side in Segunda División.
He has four goals and two assists in 19 matches, consolidating himself in the professional game. That form brought a Kenya senior debut against Gambia in September 2025.
With interest from La Liga and from Poland, Portugal and England, Real Sociedad announced on 20 February a renewal until June 2028. From Canary Islands hopeful to first-team option, Ochieng is now part of their plans.
