Joe Cole can’t believe Barcelona allowed Marc Guiu to leave the club after the striker scored a hat-trick against Shamrock Rovers.

The Blues rounded out the league phase of the Conference League with a rampant 5-1 win over Shamrock to make it six wins from six in the competition so far.

Enzo Maresca shuffled the pack once again with only Noni Madueke and Marc Cucurella keeping their places from the win against Brentford.

Cole can’t believe Barcelona let Guiu go

Tyrique George and Josh Acheampong both started the game, whilst Guiu led the line with Christopher Nkunku played behind in his preferred number ten role.

The 18-year-old was his usual energetic self as he was pressing the Shamrock defenders and he got his reward in the first half after following up on two defensive errors, having scored twice against Astana last week.

Guiu’s off the ball work made the first goal as he hustled the defender into a mistake, whilst he was alert to intercept a short back pass and round the keeper for his second.

He completed his hat-trick with a brilliant header from Noni Madueke’s cross with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Marc Cucurella scoring the other goals.

Obviously Guiu clearly has a lot of development still to do but the early signs look very promising and speaking after the game Cole expressed his disbelief that Barcelona had let him go.

“How have Barcelona let him go? This kid in two years time could be an established number nine,” he told TNT Sports as cited on X.com.

“I think he can go all the way. Barcelona have made a mistake.”

Barcelona tried to offer Guiu a new deal in the summer but he decided to join Chelsea and he will be hoping off the back of five goals in his last two games he gets an opportunity in the Premier League soon.

It will be interesting to see if Maresca names the Spaniard in his match day squad for Sunday’s trip to Everton, and off the back of a hat-trick it will be hard to leave him out.
