John Kennedy has reportedly left Celtic as the Assistant Manager follows Brendan Rodgers out the door. The Irishman tendered his resignation on Monday, which was accepted by the Celtic hierarchy.
This prompted the club to confirm Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney had been put in charge of first team affairs until a permanent appointment had been made. It was surprising that Kennedy was not involved, given his lengthy service in the first team management.
As reported by Sun Sport, Kennedy has left the dugout along with Rodgers while Gavin Strachan remains.
The decision for Rodgers to resign was surprising given his comments about being committed to success but the Irishman is likely attempting to protect his own brand, especially in light of the disparaging comments from Dermot Desmond in the statement after.
Kennedy likely hopes to become a manager in his own right and has taken this opportunity to make the move and find his own path. It is disappointing that he’s been seen in a certain light given his continued service at the club and hopefully he can prove that he is a top operator elsewhere, which could pave the way to return to Celtic.
Also departing are Adam Sadler, Jack Lyons and Glen Driscoll, who are Brendan members of staff.
