John Textor and Botafogo chiefs receive death threats before Flamengo clash

Botafogo’s turbulent week has deepened, with John Textor and fellow executives receiving death threats after the club’s pre-Libertadores exit to Barcelona de Guayaquil. The incident comes ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Flamengo in the Brasileirão.

GE reports that club officials filed a police report after the threats, and phone numbers were leaked. John Textor and Alessandro Brito were among those affected.

The early elimination means Botafogo will play the Sul-Americana in the 2026 season. Flamengo, meanwhile, are assured of the competition’s group stage as the current champions.

Flamengo face Botafogo at 20:30 Brasília time on Saturday 14 at the Engenhão, in the sixth round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
