Jon Karrikaburu will leave Real Sociedad this summer, with the striker seeking minutes after being overlooked by Matarazzo since January.
The 23-year-old, 24 in September, came through Zubieta. According to Diario Vasco, the exit is expected to be permanent rather than another loan, with terms to be agreed as he is under contract until 30 June 2027.
He retains a strong market in Segunda, though Racing are off the table as they will be in Primera. In Santander two seasons ago he played 45 times, scored nine and supplied five assists.
Last season he had brief cameos after Óskarsson’s matchday three injury, then a soleus problem ruled him out through November. He returned in December with minutes at Alavés and a full second half against Girona, after which Sergio Francisco was dismissed.
He played in the Copa last 32 at Eldense, then under Matarazzo was omitted until 22 April, four days after the Copa final, when late minutes against Getafe ended in another injury.
He debuted on 30 September 2021 in the Europa League group game against Monaco. He has 21 appearances, 497 minutes and two goals for La Real, both against Coria in 22/23. Loans include Leganés, Alavés, Andorra and Racing.
All signs point to a definitive split this summer. Whether the deal lands before pre-season on the fourth of July remains to be seen, but he will not be in next season’s squad.
