Jonathan David’s (24) future remains in doubt with the striker’s contract at Lille OSC set to expire in June. It was a surprise that David remained in the north of France over the summer when it had been reported that the club were open to cashing in on him before he entered his final year.
And while Lille risk losing a key piece for free, they have been rewarded on the field by David’s decision to remain at the club for his final year. The striker has scored important goals in Ligue 1 and the Champions League, where he scored a match-winning penalty against Real Madrid.
David’s time at Lille has not gone unnoticed and this final swan song has been an open audition for the elite clubs of Europe with Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Arsenal all interested in the soon-to-be free transfer. However, in an exclusive interview with The Athletic, David revealed that his dream would be to play for FC Barcelona.
David explained, “[Barcelona] was always the team I grew up supporting. When you grow up supporting a team, it’s a dream to play for them.” It remains to be seen whether this dream will come true.
