José Martínez has reported back to Corinthians more than a month late and carrying a left knee problem.
According to Globo.com, head coach Dorival Júnior said the midfielder is with the medical staff and will undergo tests on Monday to assess the damage. He was speaking after the 1-0 loss to Palmeiras in the seventh round at Neo Química Arena. He added the matter had been passed to the football department and the board.
The Venezuelan arrived in Brazil on Friday, checked in at CT Joaquim Grava on Saturday, underwent physical assessments, then informed staff he was hurt.
That approach was poorly received by members of the coaching team and the board, given his overdue return.
The squad had regrouped in early January, while Martínez remained in Venezuela awaiting a new passport because his old one had no blank pages.
He missed training and eight matches during this spell and was not included for the ninth fixture.
