Fenerbahce coach Jose Mourinho has branded rumours linking him with a shock return to Inter Milan a “big lie.”
The Portuguese coach messaged Italian journalist Ivan Zazzaroni, via FCInterNews, to quash the links.
Inter Milan have spent the past few days searching for a replacement for Simone Inzaghi.
The 49-year-old left the Nerazzurri to join Al-Hilal.
It is Cristian Chivu who Inter have decided to make their new coach. However, the Romanian is not the only coach the Nerazzurri considered.
Reportedly, Inter had been working on snapping up Cesc Fabregas to become Inzaghi’s successor. He was at the top of their list.
Meanwhile, Genoa coach Patrick Vieira was another name reportedly on Inter’s shortlist.

Meanwhile, there were also sensational rumours regarding Inter moving for Jose Mourinho.
The Portuguese would certainly constitute a high profile name to return to Inter.
Newspaper La Repubblica claimed that Inter had considered trying to appoint Mourinho to replace Inzaghi.
However, the newspaper claimed, the release clause in the 62-year-old’s contract with Fenerbahce was too high for them. Therefore, they instead decided upon Chivu.
But Mourinho himself has denied that this was ever something on the cards.
The Portuguese coach messaged Ivan Zazzaroni that the idea he got a call from Inter was “a big lie.”
“There was never any contact,” he says. “This is just being said because it’s what some angry fans want to hear.”
“And so they say, it was difficult for me to leave Fener, bla bla bla.”
