José Mourinho has defended Benfica full back Samuel Dahl after Sweden omitted him in favour of debutant Elliot Stroud of Mjallby. Dahl is now sidelined.
"I am never surprised by what my colleagues do, because I respect the decisions they take. Why is he not in Sweden’s squad? Potter has to answer that," he told Aftonbladet.
"He has been fantastic and has improved incredibly since I arrived. He plays every minute of every game. He is very reliable defensively and very steady in attack. He is a top player. Potter? If he needs me, I am always available to talk about my players."
Sweden face Ukraine in a 2026 World Cup play off on Friday in Valencia. If they win, they must then play Poland or Albania to secure a place in Group F alongside the Netherlands, Japan and Tunisia.
Dahl, valued at €12 million, has made 46 appearances for Benfica this season, 26 in the Liga Portugal Betclic, 13 in the Champions League, four in the Taça de Portugal, two in the Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça. He has played 3,967 minutes, scoring two goals and supplying two assists.
