Jose Mourinho’s relationship with Real Madrid and president Florentino Perez remains memorable, even years after his time at the club.
Mourinho, who managed the Spanish giants from 2010 to 2013, left a lasting impression with his intense approach and remarkable achievements, including a La Liga title and Copa del Rey.
Now, as the head coach of Benfica, the Portuguese manager has shared a touching moment that highlights his continued connection with Madrid.
After Benfica’s recent clash against Chelsea, Mourinho revealed that Florentino Perez reached out to congratulate him on his return to Portugal.
“I was calm at home after Fenerbahce, not thinking it would be Portugal, it would be Benfica.
“There was no such thing as going back home because the family is there. No, the family is in London. I returned to Portugal because it’s Benfica,” Mourinho said as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

He went on to confess the kind words from Florentino Perez, emphasizing the respect between them despite the years apart.
“President Florentino sent me a message saying that I’m very happy because you’ve returned to a club of your level,” Mourinho added.
This small gesture underlines the enduring bond Mourinho has with Real Madrid, a club where he left his mark with passion, tactical intelligence, and strong leadership.
His time in Madrid was never quiet as he challenged rivals, won three trophies, and became a figure fans either loved or loved to debate.
That legacy seems to follow him, as even today, Florentino Perez acknowledges Mourinho’s calibre and career trajectory.
Now at Benfica, Mourinho is looking to make his mark in Portugal, but the connection with Real Madrid serves as a reminder of a period that defined his career and left a significant footprint in the sport.
