Inter Milan goalkeeper Josep Martínez delivered a standout display in the Coppa Italia semi-final first leg against Como, managed by Cesc Fàbregas, keeping a clean sheet. According to Superdeporte, the 27-year-old from Alzira was named MVP of the match after a string of saves.
Martínez has been a central figure for Inter in the cup, with Cristian Chivu backing him in the knockout competition. Inter eliminated Venezia in the last 16 and Torino in the quarter-finals to reach this stage.
He also featured in the Supercoppa Italiana final this season. In Serie A he is awaiting a sustained run, though he has started two league games ahead of Sommer, winning 2-1 against Sassuolo and 0-2 at Cagliari.
The Spaniard’s rise has continued abroad after progressing from UD Las Palmas’ academy to RB Leipzig, where he won a German Cup. He then moved to northern Italy and helped Genoa return to Serie A, before Inter signed him for around €15 million in summer 2024.
Martínez made his senior Spain debut in the friendly against Lithuania when a COVID outbreak meant the under-21s, then coached by Luis de la Fuente, had to fulfil the fixture.
