Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee has struggled significantly for minutes this season.
The Dutchman may have expected to benefit from the departure of Rasmus Hojlund.
Nonetheless, this has not been the case as Ruben Amorim has often preferred new signing Benjamin Sesko and even to play Matheus Cunha as a false nine.
Zirkzee caught a break recently though as both Sesko and Cunha picked up injuries and he has has started the last two matches in the Premier League.
The Dutchman was very wasteful against Everton but he did score an incredible equaliser against Crystal Palace on Sunday, which helped launch a priceless comeback win at Selhurst Park.
In spite of United’s lack of depth in attacking areas, there have been numerous rumours that Zirkzee and United may part ways in the winter window.
AS Roma have been regularly linked to the player and it has been reported that they would be prepared to pay around €25-30 million to secure the services of the 24 year old.
There were reports yesterday that Roma were considering changing their stance on Zirkzee after his recent comments stating he was happy at Old Trafford.
The latest reports in Italy see this as an overreaction though and they claim that Zirkzee is still very much on the Romans’ radar.
Gazzetta dello Sport report that Roma are struggling with their forwards.
The side from the Italian capital have a rather meagre goal return this season and see the solution in the transfer market. The article states “that’s why Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini expects two reinforcements in January: Zirkzee above all, but also Tottenham Hotpur’s Mathys Tel.”
Another reason for the desire to sign two strikers is that, “as things stand, Roma will only have three strikers on their payroll in June: Matias Soulé, Tommaso Baldanzi, and Artem Dovbyk.”
Added to this, Soule is the only one that reportedly has a future under Gasperini, so the club are desperate for offensive reinforcements.
