Newcastle United have reached an agreement with AC Milan for the signing of Germany international Malick Thiaw in a deal understood to be worth around £35 million.The 24-year-old defender arrived in the north-east of England on Sunday evening and began his medical examinations on Monday morning, marking the final stages of a transfer pursued over several months.

Before departing Italy, Thiaw spoke briefly to reporters, stating:

AC Milan reluctant but Thiaw eager

While AC Milan were initially reluctant to part with the defender, Thiaw made it clear he was eager for the opportunity to play in the Premier League.
