Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey is entering the final two years of his current contract, with multiple offers for an extension yet to reach agreement. With negotiations stalling, both player and club are said to be exploring alternative options, and a sale this summer is increasingly viewed as the most practical outcome. For Villa, such a move would remove uncertainty ahead of the new campaign. For Ramsey, it would present a chance to secure a longer-term future elsewhere, ideally in a project aligned with his career ambitions.
Newcastle Utd have maintained long-term admiration for the midfielder, having made an approach in January 2024. The Tyneside club’s leadership, alongside head coach Eddie Howe, remain convinced that Ramsey could play a significant role in their midfield evolution.Sources indicate that Newcastle’s vision, coupled with the prospect of working under Howe, holds considerable appeal for the player. Talks between Newcastle and Villa are understood to be progressing, with an openness from all parties to reach a mutually beneficial agreement before the window closes.
While Newcastle appear to be in the driving seat, West Ham United remain a serious contender. Their manager Graham Potter is believed to hold Ramsey in high regard, with the midfielder reciprocating that respect. However, industry voices suggest West Ham may face an uphill battle to change Ramsey’s preference, particularly given Newcastle’s established interest and ongoing discussions with Villa. Clubs from overseas have also monitored developments, but the strongest momentum lies within the Premier League.
This summer has presented challenges for Newcastle’s recruitment, with several high-profile targets moving elsewhere. Nonetheless, the club has already secured deals for Anthony Elanga and Aaron Ramsdale, while negotiations for Malick Thiaw are nearing completion.Ramsey’s potential arrival is viewed internally as a priority, addressing depth and quality in central areas while complementing Newcastle’s broader squad-building strategy. Should talks with Villa progress smoothly, the move could be finalised in the coming weeks, shaping the club’s midfield for seasons to come.
