Chelsea only want to sign a centre back this month if the right player becomes available according to reports.

Former head coach Enzo Maresca asked for a new centre back last summer after Levi Colwill suffered an ACL injury after the Club World Cup.

Chelsea didn’t act, but it appears they’ve had a change of heart, and it’s been reported the Blues are now looking to sign a centre back before the end of the window.

Chelsea will only move if right player becomes available

It’s believed Chelsea have three names on their radar, with Rennes youngster Jeremy Jacquet the player the Blues have been most strongly linked to.

Chelsea are said to face competition from Bayern Munich for Jacquet, whilst Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United are also said to be interested.

The Blues are light at centre back and also lack quality in that position, with fans desperate for the club to act this month.

However, in a Q & A for Football London, journalist Bobby Vincent has provided an update on the centre back situation.

Vincent reports that both Jacquet and Ramono have been discussed internally, but Chelsea will only move if they feel the right player is available.

Aaron Anselmino impressing on loan at Borussia Dortmund

Whilst Chelsea are considering signing a centre back, they could do a lot worse than recall Aaron Anselmino.

The Argentine has impressed on loan at Borussia Dortmund this season, with the German club interested in signing him on a permanent basis.

However, Chelsea have insisted the youngster isn’t for sale, and if he continues his good form he could find himself as part of the first team squad next season.

The Blues also have Mamadou Sarr on loan at Strasbourg who’s previously worked with Liam Rosenior, so it will be interesting to see what decisions Chelsea take.
