Juan Sartori shared an emotional message after Sunderland clinched historic European qualification.

The Black Cats booked their place in Europe for the first time in two generations by beating Chelsea at the Stadium of Light. He said in a social media post that it was one of the best moments of his life and that Sunderland are in the Europa League.

Full-time brought jubilant scenes as players, staff, supporters and the ownership group celebrated a landmark moment on Wearside.

Sartori also shared a family picture from the Stadium of Light pitch as the celebrations continued.

The club’s rise has been rapid, from League One in 2022 to the Championship, then back to the Premier League, and now Europe in four years. Régis Le Bris’ side finished seventh in an astonishing first season back in the top flight.

It ended Sunderland’s wait for European football since 1973-74, a 53-year gap. The ownership led by Kyril Louis-Dreyfus backed the club heavily last summer and have seen that ambition rewarded with one of the Premier League era’s most unexpected European qualifications.
