On Tuesday, it was confirmed that Rudi Völler will remain Germany’s sporting director until at least the end of his current contract in 2028, despite the national team's disappointing World Cup round-of-32 exit against Paraguay.

The decision came after the 66-year-old held talks with Jürgen Klopp, who is widely regarded as the frontrunner to replace Julian Nagelsmann as Germany head coach.

Speaking as a MagentaTV pundit on Tuesday evening, Klopp revealed details of his conversation with Völler.

“The situation is actually unusual because nothing has been decided yet. But nevertheless, some conversations can take place regardless of how it ultimately turns out. And when you read that people were wondering whether Rudi Völler could work with me if the situation arose, I thought it was important to speak directly with him and clarify that this wouldn’t be an issue from my side,” Klopp said.

The former Liverpool manager believes Völler’s experience would be invaluable if he is appointed Germany coach.

“If it were to happen, it would be helpful to have someone there who knows the processes and everything involved. Rudi, on the one hand, has his football experience and, on the other hand, his many years of work within the federation – something where I would have no experience if I became the coach. I have never played for the national team nor have I ever managed one," Klopp explained.
