Julen Agirrezabala undergoes left knee surgery, Valencia give update | OneFootball

It is too soon to know for certain whether Julen Agirrezabala will play again for Valencia, after the on-loan Athletic goalkeeper sustained another left knee injury.

The club said in a statement that he underwent successful surgery on his left knee in Vitoria on Thursday, performed by orthopaedic surgeon Mikel Sánchez, and he will remain in hospital for clinical observation for the next few hours.

He damaged the meniscus during training last Friday at the Ciudad Deportiva de Paterna, just as he was nearing full recovery from his previous setback and was ready to reignite the goalkeeping debate.

The latest issue is in the same left knee where he suffered a hamstring tear in the first match of 2026, against Celta de Vigo at Balaídos.

Before those injuries, the Basque keeper had been an undisputed starter for Carlos Corberán in the first 18 LaLiga games, and one of the summer signings offering the best return.

The timing is damaging for a Valencia side that must lift performances to move away from the relegation places as soon as possible.
