Julian Brandt has bid farewell to Borussia Dortmund, and he has reportedly been offered to Lazio. His departure is confirmed for the end of the month.
La Lazio Siamo Noi reports that the 30-year-old has been proposed to several clubs, including Lazio, and would be willing to join. The report adds that his salary, thought to be €2.5 to €3 million, is viewed as high by the Biancocelesti, even if affordable, and his agent is contacting alternatives. It is unclear who tabled the proposal.
The Bremen native came through Borgfeld, Oberneul and Wolfsburg before breaking through at Bayer Leverkusen. He joined Dortmund for €25 million in 2019 and made 307 appearances, delivering 57 goals and 70 assists.
Primarily an attacking midfielder, he has also featured on the left wing. Gennaro Gattuso has asked for an understudy to Mattia Zaccagni, though Brandt would hardly accept a secondary role. His arrival could aid a switch to a 4-2-3-1.
On those figures his demands are modest for a player of his calibre, and Alessio Romagnoli’s departure could create room on the wage bill. Yet with a tight budget and Claudio Lotito’s increasingly frugal policy, Lazio will likely miss out.
