Mr Haddock here again, the London based Nottingham Forest fan.
A good friend introduced me to The Mag and I contributed an article back in January about our respective clubs.
That article covered how our clubs had/have a lot in common with PSR and the enforced horse-trading, but also a bit of history between us.
The connection between Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest has sparked once again, with the transfer of a certain Anthony Elanga.
Elanga is good, he is quick, very quick. But I’m a fan of Harvey Barnes, despite his Leicester heritage. Barnes is industrious, rugged and consistent and gets crosses in and a good shot off. Elanga however is less so, BUT he has pace and at the highest level that changes things – but he will miss good chances, over hit crosses or fail to beat the first man and you will be frustrated at times, but the pace is the difference, it creates chances that ordinary players wouldn’t.
However, he requires a bit of patience and understanding and fans don’t always have that.
Elanga’s sale was accepted by the club and factored in, whereas Gibbs-White, that was renegade agent influenced sharp practice. Our Greek lad will not stand for it and how messy that gets who knows, but it will get messy.
But Gibbs-White is done at Forest and inevitably we will restructure and move on.
In the past when we’ve sold Sheringhams and Collymores, we’ve struggled and been relegated, not this time. The Big Greek has an ego so big that it’s his personal reputation at stake – we don’t have a bland faceless owner at least.
Europa League? Poor Palace. I live in Crystal Palace and Palace fans don’t deserve this. They suffer despite their commitment and great support – I’m not celebrating if we get Europa league rather than Conference – it’s much the same from a fan perspective, European football jollies.
We have got our saviour by the way – Jesus has joined us from Botafogo (Textor owns them, as well as Palace and Lyon, and this is the Europa league problem). So Textor, who sells us his Brazilian talent and is also buying a dodgy keeper off us for good money (ring any bells?) for Lyon, who weren’t relegated on appeal! Nothing strange or odd here at all. We have also sold a couple of other decent players to Lyon previously as well – so for the conspiracy theorists (more of you than ever) it seems Marinakis and Textor have an interesting global football relationship?
This however is the weird future – global football is unstoppable and there will be conglomerates of football clubs across continents that end up facing off against each other in various leagues and competitions. Geordies are owned by an oil state, crude to say the least. You are a political proxy whether you wish to be bothered about that or not. Looking forward to my next beer with my Geordie mate spouting football and politics in the Hermits Cave, Camberwell.
