Juventus have opened talks with Crystal Palace over Jean-Philippe Mateta, with an initial offer expected in the coming days, according to L'Équipe. The move could improve his prospects of a France call-up.
Mateta, under contract until 2027, is due to face Sunderland away on Saturday at 16:00, and it could be his final Palace appearance.
Juve are now expected to step up by sending a first proposal, likely a loan with an obligation to buy. The total package remains under discussion, with indications it would not be below €25m.
The Italian club had initially planned to wait until the summer, after Dusan Vlahovic’s contract expires, before advancing. Concern that English clubs could act this winter has prompted them to bring the timetable forward.
At 28, Mateta is open to a move this winter to showcase himself further and persuade Didier Deschamps. With fewer than five months until France depart for the World Cup in the United States on 9 June, he is aiming to stake a claim for the first World Cup of his career.
