Juventus remain interested in a January move for Liverpool’s Chiesa, yet they are assessing other attacking options this month, with Maldini among those under evaluation.

Gazzetta suggests Maldini is the first-choice alternative to Chiesa this month. The Atalanta player is the son of Milan legend Paolo.

Juventus want to give Luciano Spalletti more options in attack during the window, and have been linked with Napoli’s Lorenzo Lucca and Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta among others.

Chiesa, pushed out of the Juventus first team around 18 months ago, could be available for about €10m. Liverpool prefer a permanent sale and intend to wait for Mohamed Salah’s return from the Africa Cup of Nations before making a final decision.

That stance leaves Juventus in limbo over January business.

For Maldini, Juventus prefer an initial loan with an option to buy rather than an obligation, and it remains to be seen whether Atalanta would accept those terms.

Pursuing Chiesa or Maldini would continue a Juventus trend of signing sons of former Serie A stars, with Timothy Weah, Francisco Conceicao and Khephren Thuram among those to have featured over the last two seasons.
