Juventus Transfer Blueprint: Departures, Arrivals & Unfinished Business

Juventus have had a far quieter summer transfer window than last year, but could still complete several high-profile deals. It’s been five years since the Bianconeri last won the Scudetto, and there’s a feeling that they lack a competitive edge.

Therefore, Igor Tudor may add to his squad by the end of August. Juventus secured a fourth-place finish in Serie A last season by the skin of their teeth. Indeed, they left it until the final matchday to lock down a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Otherwise, this would’ve probably been a different summer. With the lure of Europe’s elite club competition on the table, Juventus can still attract top players to Turin. However, a 13-point deficit to Napoli in 2024/25 testifies to the extent of the gap.

As such, reinforcements have become a necessity. Yet, negotiations for top targets haven’t gone smoothly, raising doubts over Juventus’ ability to deliver the upgrades Tudor desperately needs to mount a serious title challenge.

Let’s look at Juve’s summer transfer dealings.

Key exits

Juventus refused to offer veteran fullback Mattia De Sciglio a new contract, letting him leave the club on a free transfer. Meanwhile, after failing to impress Tudor at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, Alberto Costa departed the Allianz Arena to join Porto in a deal worth €15 million.

Perhaps surprisingly, Juventus sanctioned the exit of Samuel Mbangula. Bundesliga side Werder Bremen splashed out the second-highest fee in club history to sign the 21-year-old winger for €10 million. Despite Mbangula’s talent, Tudor deemed him surplus to requirements.

Meanwhile, Nicolo Rovella completed a permanent transfer to Lazio after an outstanding season-long loan in the 2024/25 campaign. The same goes for Luca Pellegrini. Moreover, Italian midfielder Nicolo Fagioli has signed a multi-year contract at Fiorentina.

It’s also worth noting that Juventus failed to find an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain for the permanent transfer of Randal Kolo Muani. However, talks between the clubs over a new loan deal are ongoing.

Notable signings

It’s been relatively quiet in terms of incoming transfers. Separately from Costa’s switch to Porto, João Mario has arrived from Estádio do Dragão. Juventus paid the Dragons €12 million for the 25-year-old right-back, who will likely compete with Pierre Kalulu for a place in the starting lineup.

The French defender fared well in 2024/25, convincing Juventus to make his transfer from Milan permanent for a reported fee of €14 million. The same applies to Nicolas Gonzalez and Francisco Conceicao, both of whom spent last season on loan in Turin. Their arrivals have cost Juventus a combined fee of around €60 million.

However, the most significant piece of business remains the signing of Jonathan David from Lille on a Bosman deal. The Canadian striker had offers from numerous top clubs but ultimately chose to continue his career at the Allianz Stadium.

What’s next?

David’s arrival suggests Juventus are ready to wave goodbye to the out-of-favor Dusan Vlahovic. The 25-year-old is reluctant to extend his deal despite entering the final year of his contract. Therefore, he could soon leave the club, with Milan reportedly leading the race for his signature.

Vlahovic’s likely exit would create a vacuum in the center-forward role. Therefore, Juventus are scouring the market for a new goal-getter. According to Gazzetta dello Sport via Tuttojuve, Manchester United outcast Rasmus Hojlund has emerged as an option for the Bianconeri.

Formerly linked with Inter and Milan, Hojlund has fallen out of favor at Old Trafford. The Red Devils are ready to listen to offers for the ex-Atalanta ace. Yet, Juventus would likely push for a loan deal if they fail to re-sign Kolo Muani.

Elsewhere, Tudor’s men remain in the market for midfield additions. Douglas Luiz had an unenviable first season in Serie A, making Juventus reconsider their options. Per Tuttosport via JuventusNews24, Sporting CP star Morten Hjulmand is ready to return to Italy.

The report says the Dane has already agreed on personal terms with Juventus. Now, it’s up to the record-time Italian champions to strike a deal with Sporting. Hjulmand won’t come cheap, with the Lisbon outfit seeking around €70 million to sell their captain.

As for other potential outgoing deals, Timothy Weah could sever ties with Juventus amid growing interest from Olympique Marseille. However, Juventus’ €20 million asking price remains a stumbling block, with the French outfit reluctant to spend that figure to sign the USMNT forward.
