Juventus midfielder Khephren Thuram has admitted that he’d ‘always end up crying’ when taking on his brother, Marcus, currently of Inter, while growing up together.

The Thuram brothers recently went head-to-head in the thrilling Derby d’Italia, which ended in a 4-3 victory for the Bianconeri. Both brothers ended up scoring back-to-back goals within six minutes of each other in the second half.

“It was a great game, we know it’s an important game for our fans because it’s the Derby d’Italia and we won it so yeah, it’s the best thing to do during that game,” Thuram told CBS Sports’s Morning Footy.

“After the game, he was pretty calm. He told me that he was happy for me, that I had a good game. He’s my big brother, so I can’t really tell him anything. He’s probably going to hit me!

“He’s the proudest big brother ever, he was really proud of me.”

Khephren Thuram admitted that it felt ‘a little weird’ to go up against his brother, particularly when they ended up marking each other on occasion, and particularly given that he and his brother were fully locked in to the task at hand.

“During the game, sometimes it was a little weird because he was next to me, he wasn’t smiling, he was concentrated on what he had to do. Sometimes it was weird for me because he always smiles, he always jokes, but during that game, he wasn’t that funny.”

Khephren Thuram also went on to explain what it was like growing up as the younger brother to Inter’s starting centre-forward. Given their four-year age difference, Khephren admits that he often ended up on the losing side of their battles, whether that be on the pitch, on the playground or on gaming consoles.

“He’s a striker, so I always had to defend him. He wasn’t the guy defending me. He was better than me, I would end up crying, he’d end up making fun of me.

“It was competitive in everything, when we played FIFA it was competitive, when we played NBA 2k it was competitive, on the playground, everywhere was competitive, but I’d always end up crying to be honest.”
