K-League: psicodramma dell’Ulsan Hyundai, il Jeonbuk balza in vetta alla classifica | OneFootball

Siamo al primo giorno di dicembre nel 2019: l’Ulsan Hyundai è al comando della classifica all’ultima giornata di campionato, gli basta il pareggio per poter vincere quel titolo che addirittura manca dal 2005. Le Horang tigers vengono però sconfitte fra le mura amiche nell’East Coast derby dal Pohang Steelers per ben 1-4. Il pubblico assiste con frustrazione al dramma che si sta consumando in campo, mentre a Jeonju, il Jeonbuk fa il suo vincendo 1-0 contro il Gangwon vincendo così il primo titolo nell’era del portoghese Josè Morais.

Portiamo e lancette in avanti: è il 18 ottobre del 2020, l’Ulsan Hyundai in questa stagione si trova al primo posto in classifica a tre giornate dalla fine, con tre punti di vantaggio sul Jeonbuk. Sulla strada di Junior Negao e compagni si frappone nuovamente il Pohang Steelers. Altra clamorosa debacle: sconfitta per 0-4 con due reti a testa di Palocevic e Iljutcenko. Nel frattempo il Jeonbuk compie la rimonta vincendo in casa 4-1 contro il Gwanju agganciando così in vetta l’Ulsan alla vigilia dello scontro diretto decisivo per le sorti della K-League

25 ottobre 2020: Come nei due precedenti incontri avvenuti questa stagione è il Jeonbuk a prevalere e a dimostrare di saper gestire al meglio i momenti critici della stagione. 1-0 a firma del gambiano Modou Barrow, che nel confronto precedente fra le due squadre aveva segnato e servito un assist (2-1 il risultato). Il Jeonbuk si porta così a +3 ad una giornata dalla fine dopo che nelle scorse settimane aveva persino rischiato di finire a -7 dai rivali, ma l’Ulsan non ha mai approfittato dei passi falsi dei rivali, palesando nettamente la paura di vincere questo campionato.

Questo weekend (primo novembre) si chiude la stagione 2020 della K-League. Considerando che a parità di punti conta la differenza reti (+23 per il Jeonbuk, +28 per l’Ulsan) se i Green Warriors dovessero perdere in casa contro il Daegu e le Horang Tigers vincere contro il Gwanju, allora potremmo assistere all’ennesimo capovolgimento di fronte in questa stagione. Ma per quel che abbiamo visto, fino ad ora, questo scenario appare essere assolutamente improbabile ed il Jeonbuk si avvia a vincere il suo settimo campionato negli ultimi sei anni, con buona pace dell’Ulsan Hyundai che anche quest’anno, padrone del proprio destino, non ha voluto vincere.

Quella fra Jeonbuk e Gwanju sarà inoltre l’ultima partita nel campionato coreano per Lee Dong-gook. La leggenda, classe 1979, miglior marcatore di sempre nella storia della K-League e della AFC Champions League, nei giorni scorsi ha annunciato il suo ritiro dal calcio giocato al termine della stagione. Anche quest’anno Lee, nonostante i 41 anni sulle spalle è riuscito a dare il suo contributo con 4  reti.

Ma il confronto fra le due compagini al vertice del calcio coreano non finisce qui: fra il 4 e l’8 novembre Ulsan Hyundai e Jeonbuk si daranno battaglia in sfide d’andata e ritorno nella finale della Coppa di Corea.

We are at the first day of December in 2019: Ulsan Hyundai is at the top of the standings on the last day of the championship, all it takes is a draw to win the title that has been missing since 2005. However, the Horang tigers are defeated within friendly walls in the East Coast derby by Pohang Steelers 1-4. The public watched with frustration the drama that was taking place on the field, while in Jeonju, Jeonbuk won 1-0 against the Gangwon and thus won the first title in the era of Portuguese Josè Morais.

Let’s move forward: it’s 18 October 2020, Ulsan Hyundai is in first place in the standings this season with three days to go, three points ahead of Jeonbuk. Junior Negao and his teammates are once again standing in the way of Pohang Steelers. Another resounding debacle: a 4-0 defeat with two goals each from Palocevic and Iljutcenko. In the meantime, Jeonbuk makes a comeback by winning 4-1 at home against Gwanju, thus hooking Ulsan at the top on the eve of the decisive direct clash for the destiny of the K-League…

25th October 2020: As in the two previous meetings held this season, Jeonbuk prevails and proves to be able to manage the critical moments of the season in the best possible way. 1-0 by the Gambian Modou Barrow, who in the previous matches between the two teams had scored and served an assist (2-1 the result). The Jeonbuk thus goes to +3 to a day from the end after having even risked to finish -7 from rivals in the past weeks, but Ulsan has never taken advantage of rivals’ missteps, clearly showing the fear of winning this championship.

This weekend (1st November) closes the 2020 K-League season. Considering that the goal difference counts for the same points (+23 for Jeonbuk, +28 for Ulsan) if the Green Warriors  lose at home against Daegu and the Horang Tigers win against Gwanju, then we could see yet another turnaround ahead this season. But from what we have seen so far, this scenario appears to be absolutely unlikely and Jeonbuk is on its way to win its seventh championship in the last six years, with good peace of mind from Ulsan Hyundai, who again this year, master of his own destiny, did not want to win.

The match between Jeonbuk and Gwanju will also be the last match in the Korean championship for Lee Dong-gook. The legend, born in 1979, the best scorer ever in the history of the K-League and the AFC Champions League, announced in recent days his retirement from football played at the end of the season. Once again this year Lee, despite 41 years on his shoulders, managed to make his contribution with 4 goals

But the confrontation between the two teams at the top of Korean football does not end there: between 4 and 8 November Ulsan Hyundai and Jeonbuk will fight each other in a double leg match in the final of the Korean Cup.
