Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has weighed in on whether the Soweto giants are ready to challenge for the league title, amidst a strong start to the 2025/26 campaign.

Amakhosi won four of their first five Betway Premiership outings, while drawing the other encounter with defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns. Chiefs are currently in second place with 13 points accumulated.

This comes after Nabi guided the Glamour Boys to a Nedbank Cup triumph last season – the club’s first trophy in a decade. As a result, the Naturena-based outfit is set to compete in the CAF Confederation Cup this season.

While there has been optimism in the ongoing term, the Tunisian mentor cautioned that his side is not the finished article at this stage, highlighting tactical aspects that still need some polishing.

“I think you don’t like when I speak about process but it’s a reality when it comes to this team. I didn’t promise from the first season to win a trophy and to come back [to glory days]. But it’s a process with methodology, we are working,” said Nabi.

“I think last season we won the Nedbank Cup, that gave us more confidence. For this season, I think we are in a good trajectory, the results are there but there is still a lot of work needed to continue the process.

“We are happy about the results, but we still need more work about our game model, we need to see Kaizer Chiefs not struggling against any team, we must control all the games and play to win each game with good football and big personality.

Chiefs will battle for crucial maximum points against log leaders Sekhukhune United on 16 September at the FNB Stadium after the FIFA international break. Babina Noko are level on points with Nabi’s men but with a superior goal difference.
