Kalvin Phillips hailed Leeds United's late-season surge as incredible and underlined his enduring bond with the club. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the Manchester City midfielder attended an Elland Road screening of England v Ghana with Patrick Bamford.
Under Daniel Farke, Leeds started well, rode out a mini slump and pulled clear with a strong second half. Safety was secured with three games to spare and they finished 14th on their Premier League return. Phillips noted they were seventh in the form table in that period.
The Leeds-born midfielder was central to promotion under Marcelo Bielsa and a top 10 Premier League finish, then moved to Manchester City for £42m.
While Leeds were relegated in 2023, he won the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup with City, making 12, three and four appearances. Leeds have since returned under Farke, and Phillips has had loans at West Ham, Ipswich Town and Sheffield United. He praised 49ers Enterprises and chairman Paraag Marathe for the club's progress.
An Achilles injury ruined the start of his 2025/26, delaying any loan move. A January switch to Bramall Lane brought three appearances and two starts before a red card and a knee injury ended his season in February. He hopes for a better campaign next season.
Phillips has been linked with a Sheffield United return under Chris Wilder as he enters the penultimate year of his City deal.
