Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips (30) is set to join Sheffield United on loan until the end of the season, BBC Sport have reported.
The 30-year-old has struggled for game time at the Etihad Stadium, making just seven minutes of action this term in a Carabao Cup win over Huddersfield in September.
Phillips, who joined City from Leeds United in 2022 for £45m, has previously had loan spells at Ipswich Town and West Ham United. Despite limited appearances this season, he was part of City’s treble-winning squad in 2023, collecting Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup medals.
Sheffield United are working to complete the deal ahead of Monday’s 19:00 GMT transfer deadline. The Championship side hope Phillips’ experience in midfield will strengthen their squad as they push for a top-six finish.
Phillips’ time at Manchester City has been a mixture of highs and lows. While he impressed in his first season under Pep Guardiola, he fell out of favour following a difficult start to the 2022–23 campaign, when Guardiola publicly criticised his fitness after returning from the World Cup.
