Harry Kane is making a big splash at the 2026 World Cup and setting his sights on breaking more records. With his goal against Mexico, the Bayern striker has moved further up the all-time World Cup scoring list.
Harry Kane remains one of the standout players at the 2026 World Cup. The Bayern Munich forward sent England into the Round of 16 with a brace against the Democratic Republic of the Congo and followed that up with the decisive penalty kick in the 3-2 victory over Mexico.
The 32-year-old now has 14 goals in World Cup finals and ranks among the most prolific scorers in tournament history.
In addition, the striker still has a good chance of securing the Golden Boot as the tournament’s top scorer. With six goals, Kane currently ranks fourth. The standings are currently led by Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland, and Kylian Mbappé, who all have seven goals each.
With his goal against Mexico, Kane tied Bayern legend Gerd Müller on the all-time World Cup scoring list. Both now have 14 goals.
The next milestone is already in sight: Miroslav Klose, who won the World Cup with Germany in 2014, scored a total of 16 goals in World Cups. The Bayern star is thus just two goals away from catching up to Germany’s all-time leading World Cup scorer.
Lionel Messi now tops the list with 20 goals. The Argentine surpassed longtime record-holder Klose during this year’s tournament. Kylian Mbappé follows closely behind with 19 goals.
Regardless of the international rankings, Kane has already made English soccer history. With his 14 goals, he has long been England’s sole all-time leading scorer at World Cups.
Given his strong form, the striker has good reason to hope he can climb even higher in the rankings during this tournament. England is in the quarterfinals, and Kane is once again leading the Three Lions as captain and a guaranteed goal-scorer.
If England continues its run at the World Cup, Harry Kane could continue to make history in the upcoming matches and close the gap on Miroslav Klose—or even surpass him.
