Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided clarity on transfer speculation linking Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi with a potential move to Manchester United.
Over the past few weeks, there have been suggestions that United are interested in a swoop for Adeyemi.
Adeyemi has spent three years at Dortmund but his future at the club is uncertain amid a frosty relationship with manager Nico Kovac.
A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United held talks with his agent, Jorge Mendes, over the possibility of getting a deal over the line. This was fuelled by a subsequent report which claimed that United are willing to submit a bid for the Germany international.
While United have been mentioned to be admirers of Adeyemi, it’s believed that Arsenal are his preferred transfer destination.
The forward is an admirer of Mikel Arteta’s style of play and sees it as being perfect for his attributes. As speculation rumbles on, Romano has given an update, insisting that United have not initiated any discussions regarding Adeyemi.
However, Romano notes that United are indeed on the hunt for an attacker.
Romano said on his YouTube channel, “My information is that at this moment Man United are not negotiating with Karim Adeyemi. They have not made any approach on player or club side.”
“Man United are looking at that kind of player, someone who can play as a winger, as a number 10, behind the striker.”
“But at this stage of the year, United have not started concrete negotiations on Karim Adeyemi.”
Romano’s information that United are keen on a player who can drift between the wing and centre-forward roles comes as a surprise, considering they signed Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha last summer to do this.
The Red Devils are next in action on Monday evening when they welcome Everton to Old Trafford.
