Kelleher Considers Liverpool Exit Amid Mamardashvili Arrival

Caoimhin Kelleher has rarely spoken out. But when he does, there is typically clarity and purpose in his words. After Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace at Anfield, the Irish goalkeeper offered a quiet, firm reminder of his own ambitions — ones which may now lie away from Merseyside.

“I think I’ve said it before that I feel like I’m a No. 1,” Kelleher said. “I think I’m good enough to play week-in week-out, and that’s what I’m looking to do.”

Career At Crossroads For Kelleher

Kelleher has been the dependable deputy behind Alisson Becker for years, but the 26-year-old’s patience is now clearly wearing thin. “This season I was lucky enough to play a lot of games but definitely something I’m looking at,” he added.

Across all competitions this season, Kelleher made 20 appearances for Arne Slot’s side, keeping nine clean sheets. Those included four in 10 Premier League matches and three in four Champions League outings — a testament to his growing maturity and ability to step up at short notice.

Still, the reality is this: with Alisson under contract until 2027 and Giorgi Mamardashvili set to arrive for £30 million, Kelleher’s path to becoming Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper looks more obstructed than ever.

Transfer Interest Begins To Build

Mamardashvili, who was signed from Valencia last summer and loaned back to complete the season in Spain, is expected to formally join Liverpool’s squad in the coming weeks. His arrival effectively reshapes the depth chart, leaving Kelleher facing a pivotal decision.

That decision is expected to attract interest from several Premier League clubs. Aston Villa and Manchester United have both been linked with potential goalkeeper changes, and Kelleher’s record makes him an appealing option for any club looking for an agile, composed presence in goal.

Whether it’s a loan or permanent move, Liverpool’s long-time No. 2 could soon be a starter elsewhere.

Celebration And Reflection In Equal Measure

Despite the uncertainty, Kelleher appeared in reflective mood during Liverpool’s title celebrations. “It’s obviously very special,” he said. “You know from being in the stadium how special the fans are. It’s special memories for us all and we’ll just soak up the atmosphere now and enjoy today.”

Looking ahead to the club’s Premier League trophy parade, Kelleher was upbeat. “I think it’s going to be crazy,” he said. “I remember the last one, when we won the Champions League, was crazy. But it’s the first time in the Premier League with fans, I think it could be mental!”

Kelleher has been part of that journey. Whether he remains part of what comes next remains to be seen.
