VfL Wolfsburg have signed 20-year-old Japanese forward Kento Shiogai from NEC Nijmegen. The club said at the Volkswagen Arena this afternoon that his contract runs until the end of the 2029/30 season.

The deal is worth approximately €9 million. Shiogai had been a leading target after scoring seven goals in 12 Eredivisie matches this season.

He will wear number seven. The shirt was last used by Danish right winger Andreas Skov Olsen before his loan move to Scottish Premiership side Rangers earlier this week.

Sporting director Pirmin Schwegler praised Shiogai’s pace, intensity and pressing, calling him a strong fit for the squad. He also underlined the club’s delight at securing the signing and pledged support to help him settle quickly in the Bundesliga.

Shiogai expressed his excitement at joining Wolfsburg and described the Bundesliga switch as a big step. He promised to give 100 percent for the team, keep developing and get started as soon as possible.

He becomes the third Japanese player to represent the club in its 80-year history. Makoto Hasebe won the 2008/09 title and scored six goals in 159 appearances between 2008 and 2013, while Yoshito kubo featured 13 times in 2008/09 before returning to Vissel Kobe.
