Kevin De Bruyne admits deciding where he will go after leaving Manchester City is proving to be a very difficult decision – and says he is still unclear as to what the future holds.
The Belgian midfielder will leave the club in the summer after ten years when his contract runs out.
And while he has not ruled out remaining in the Premier League, De Bruyne says his decision will depend on his family, and is not concerned about how he is viewed by others.
“I don’t care about status,” he said when asked about the public wanting to see him continue playing at a high level.
“I want to be happy and playing good football. Status, what does it mean? That comes and goes. I just want to enjoy playing some football. Status can come whenever I’m done.
“Everything has to fall into place, for my family and for myself. When you’re 20 years old and making a decision it’s easy, you can move to another country and it’s not a problem.
“I want to take the best decision for my kids, for my wife, with school, living, things that you need to think about.
“I’ll take that decision whenever I’m ready and comfortable so that’s the most important thing, finishing these two games and then after making a decision but it’s not that easy.
“I have to take care of my family and my kids and my wife. It’s not an easy process.”
On whether his preference is to keep playing at the highest level, he added: “Yeah probably but it depends on all the factors. I will not say one or the other because I don’t know myself and it depends on those factors.”
Manchester City took the decision to let De Bruyne leave the club and the 33-year-old admits that it was difficult to take.
“Like I said before, the decision is what it is,” he said. “Obviously it’s not something that was nice at the moment but I accept it and I move on.
“It happens to everybody and I will still play football.”
