A recent report from AS has provided an encouraging update on Real Madrid defender David Alaba, stating that he is expected to return to action in early 2025.
The Austrian defender has been out of play since December last year when he sustained a severe injury in a match against Villarreal. Nearly 11 months later, Alaba has touched the ball again, marking a significant milestone in his recovery journey.
Over the past few months, Alaba has been taking steps to rebuild his fitness. He has been participating in light sessions, running on the grass and completing various phases of his rehabilitation.
Each step is bringing him closer to a return that once seemed distant and uncertain. Although there is still work to be done, Alaba is on track to rejoin his teammates within a few weeks, possibly at the start of the new year.
The defender’s recovery has not been straightforward. The nature of his knee injury required careful, tailored treatment, making his situation more complex than typical cases.

Real Madrid’s medical team has been cautious, taking into account the uniqueness of his injury to ensure he makes a full recovery. The club has emphasized that his road to recovery would be gradual, understanding that his knee’s condition required additional care.
Alaba’s return could provide much-needed support to Real Madrid’s defensive line, as Carlo Ancelotti’s options have been limited in recent weeks, especially with Aurelien Tchouameni out due to a sprained left ankle.
Tchouameni’s absence has left Real Madrid stretched thin in defence, impacting both centre-back and right-back positions.
Alaba’s return won’t solve these challenges immediately, as his reintegration into matches will need to be gradual to prevent further complications.
In any case, the Austrian’s progress is a positive sign for Real Madrid, who will benefit greatly from his experience and skill at the back. With patience and careful management, Alaba could soon be playing a crucial role in strengthening the team’s defence in the months ahead.
