A ‘top four’ finish in the Premier League and the FA Cup title must be the season goals for Manchester City after a dreadful run of results both at home and in Europe. They travelled to the City Ground this afternoon in search of three points against Nottingham Forest, but they returned empty-handed following a stellar late strike from Callum Hudson-Odoi. The defeat has further jeopardized their Champions League qualification for the upcoming campaign.
Below are the Manchester City players rated in their 1-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest.
Ederson: 6
Made an astounding save to deny Hudson-Odoi midway through the second half. But he could not stop the Englishman from finding the net when his thunderous near-post strike beat past the Brazilian.
Matheus Nunes: 5.5
Started as a makeshift right fullback, but he hardly had an impact in the attacking build-ups. Was kept on his toes by Hudson-Odoi before making way for Rico Lewis around the hour mark.
Abdukodir Khusanov: 7.5
Did well to contain Chris Wood in the heart of the backline. The Uzbek centre-back was calm, composed and resolute throughout the game, and was also spot-on with his tackles and interceptions.

Ruben Dias: 6.5
Was unsettled at times against Forest’s long balls and direct play from the back. The mobility of Morgan Gibbs-White prevented him from controlling the tempo from the deep with his ball-playing attribute.
Josko Gvardiol: 6
Rarely made any overlapping run from the left and was completely outdone by Hudson-Odoi before the goal. Was going strong defensively before that one decisive moment.
Nico Gonzalez: 5.5
Came close to finding the net in the first half. Looked nervous deep down the midfield as he was also cautioned for hauling down Nicolás Domínguez after dangerously losing possession. Was replaced by Mateo Kovacic around the hour mark.
Savinho: 6
Had a few successful dribbling attempts. But the end product, particularly his crosses from the byline were below par. Was taken off for Omar Marmoush midway through the second half.
Bernardo Silva: 6.5
Has been a workhorse for years, but the ageing Portuguese playmaker has lost his legs, thus struggled against Forest’s press in the middle of the park.
Phil Foden: 6
The central role does not suit his game as the Englishman disappoints again despite creating a few chances from an advanced midfield slot. He could not dominate the midfield game and was eventually taken off for Kevin De Bruyne midway through the second half.
Jeremy Doku: 6
Another predictable and unproductive outing from the Belgian who exhibited his dribbling mastery but lacked the decision-making high up the pitch.
Erling Haaland: 5
The Forest defensive duo Nikola Milenkovic and Murilo kept him under control. Could not test Matz Sels between the sticks as he had the least number of touches of any outfield player to play 90 minutes.
Rico Lewis: 6
The flair of Hudson-Odoi and Anthony Elanga never let him take control of the transitions.
Mateo Kovacic: 6.5
Was combative since coming on, but the introduction of Ryan Yates and Ibrahim Sangare limited his box-to-box movements.
Kevin De Bruyne: 6
Tried to make a difference with his passing and link-up play. But the Belgian is way past his prime and failed to create the magic in the attacking third.
