Kieran Trippier (35) will leave Newcastle United this summer when his contract expires, BBC Sport has reported.
The 35-year-old joined from Atletico Madrid in January 2022 for £12m, becoming the first signing after the club’s Saudi-led takeover. At the time, Newcastle were in the relegation zone and had won just one Premier League match all season.
Trippier quickly became a key figure under Eddie Howe, helping to drive standards on and off the pitch. His experience, leadership and quality from right-back played a major part in Newcastle’s rise up the table.
The former England defender helped the club qualify for the Champions League in 2023 and 2025, and was also part of the side that ended Newcastle’s 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy by winning the EFL Cup last season.
In a statement, Trippier said he had “felt most at home” at Newcastle and thanked supporters for backing him through “the good and the bad”.
Howe praised Trippier’s impact, calling him “magnificent” and saying his arrival helped change the club’s direction.
