Portugal women extended their 100% winning start to the World Cup 2027 qualifying campaign with victories on the road against Latvia and Slovakia.
The Seleção top Group B3 with four wins from four matches. Their spot in the World Cup playoffs is now guaranteed and the next goal is to win the group in order to get promoted back to the top tier (the A leagues) of the Nations League.
Star player Kika Nazareth was in imperious form, scoring three goals, with Tatiana Pinto and Carolina Santiago also hitting the net.
Portugal were far too strong for the hosts in the Daugava Stadium in Riga.
After creating a several chances in the early exchanges, Portugal took the lead in spectacular fashion in the 14th minute when Kika curled a 20-yard free kick into the corner of the net.
The lead was doubled soon afterwards, Ana Capeta providing a classy assist for Tatiana Pinto to shoot home from close range.
The visitors continued to dominate proceedings, but had to wait until the 73rd minute to extend their lead.
It was another wonderful goal by Kika, the Barcelona player latching onto the ball in the box after a scramble, side-stepping her marker and chipping a delightful finish high into the net off the crossbar.
In their fourth match of the campaign, Portugal conceded their first goal, as Klaudia Fabová took advantage of a set piece that the Seleção failed to clear to put Slovakia ahead in the 8th minute in the Tatran Arena, in Presov.
Posed with a new problem, the Seleção took their time to react to the setback, but gradually began to get into the ascendency, and two goals in five minutes shortly before the break turned around the match.
Kika Nazareth’s raking pass set Carolina Santiago free, the Sporting forward netting at the second attempt.
Five minutes later Diana Silva won the ball high up the pitch, allowing Kika Nazareth and Tatiana Pinto to exchange passes, with the former sweeping the ball into the net.
Portugal remained on top in the second half, and only a series of fine saves by the Slovakian goalkeeper prevented a wider margin of victory.

“The overall assessment of the double header is very positive: six points won, first place in the group maintained, and we depend only on ourselves to stay there.”
Portugal have twelve points from their four matches, but with second-place Finland only three points behind, and the final game for the Seleção away against the Fins on 9 June, there is still work to do.
Although a place in the World Cup playoffs is now guaranteed, Portugal will be striving to win the group in order to be promoted to League A of the UEFA Women’s Nations League.
