Ronald Koeman says he will soon make a decision on his future as the Netherlands boss.

The Netherlands were knocked out of the World Cup on penalties by Morocco in the round of 32 after a 1-1 draw.

And asked if he had offered his resignation following the loss, Koeman said: “No, I did not.”

Quizzed on whether he was going to quit, he continued: “It is like that after these matches. The disappointment is so in your head. I’ll start on that tomorrow and maybe I’ll have figured it out tomorrow afternoon.

“Just because I’m not saying what you want to hear right now, does that mean I’m not taking responsibility?

“I haven’t thought about it any more yet.”

Koeman also defended his decision to play with a back five, insisting it was the right call despite his side’s exit.

“We defended against Japan and Tunisia also with five, and we have now done that with a real five defenders,” he said.

“You can think whatever you want about it. We gave away much less against a much better team than Sweden and Tunisia.

“If I had to do it again, I would do it again. But I know that if you are the national coach in the Netherlands, if that call works then I get the compliments, and now I think I’m pretty much going to get torn apart for picking five defenders.

“But again, I felt that was necessary. I spoke to the players and they came to that conclusion as well.”
