FC Barcelona secured a place in the final of the Copa del Rey last night as they beat Atletico Madrid with a 0-1 scoreline in the second leg of the semi-finals.

This was a significant win for the Blaugranes as they now have only one match to add another title to their tally of trophies for this season after already having won the Spanish Super Cup.

Meanwhile, the Catalans also got a significant victory away from the pitch today, as CSD upheld their appeal for the licenses of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, and the two players are now registered for the entirety of their contracts.

However, La Liga is now taking this blow sitting down. This is clear from the statement that they published after the ruling was announced today. As SPORT has reported, the league authority has announced that it will appeal against this decision from the CSD in the Administrative Litigation Court.

La Liga believes that this ruling is not in accordance with law and has published a lengthy public statement to explain their mode of thinking.

The body headed by Javier Tebas has raised some legal and technical issues in this statement. One such issue they have highlighted is that the licenses of these two players were cancelled automatically on 31st December 2024, and thus a specific action of cancellation was not required.

Another issue the league raised in this statement is about their perceived lack of fairness in CSD’s conduct in this case. They highlight that the entire period of three months was taken by the body to make a decision in this case, during which the precautionary measure to keep the two players registered was also in force.

On the other hand, the precautionary measure was granted to Barcelona within 24 hours, and that too without hearing La Liga. The statement also highlights the presence of some earlier decisions from the highest courts in Spain that this ruling contradicts.

Thus, with La Liga set to appeal this decision, there is still some uncertainty regarding the future of these two players. However, the Barcelona duo remains registered for now, and will hopefully be able to contribute to their team’s success in this crucial phase of the season.
