As was the case in the last summer transfer window, FC Barcelona are once again expected to try to strengthen their forward line, the left wing in particular, in the next summer transfer window.
For this purpose, the Catalans have already been linked with several players, including Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Nico Williams, and Rafael Leao.
Another player who has been strongly linked with Barcelona in the last few weeks is the English winger Marcus Rashford, who has already hinted at a possible departure from Manchester United in a recent interview.
In the English media, Barcelona is being touted as one of the most likely destinations for the winger, but as SPORT has noted, another Spanish club has entered the race for his signature: Atletico Madrid.
The Colchoneros, who had previously attempted to sign Rashford a few years ago, are now reportedly exploring the possibility of acquiring him on loan. Atletico sees this as an opportunity to capitalize on the uncertainty surrounding Rashford’s future at Manchester United and bolster their attacking options.
However, Atletico Madrid’s forward line is already well-stocked following the summer arrivals of players like Julian Alvarez and Alexander Sorloth. Additionally, Giuliano Simeone has established himself as an integral part of his father Diego Simeone’s squad.
Despite this depth, reports from England suggest Atletico remains interested in €55m-rated English forward, underscoring their ambition to strengthen their offensive arsenal further.
Rashford himself is reportedly keen on playing in La Liga. With Real Madrid not pursuing him and Barcelona yet to show firm interest, Atletico could emerge as the most viable destination for the English winger.
However, the competition for Rashford’s signature extends beyond Spain. Several top European clubs, including Bayern Munich and Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce, are also monitoring his situation closely.
On the other hand, Rashford has ruled out a potential move to Saudi Arabia, while English clubs like Chelsea and Arsenal have also distanced themselves from pursuing the forward.
As things stand, the player’s future remains uncertain, and it will be interesting to see how the situation unfolds in the coming weeks.
