Lamine Yamal tells Real Madrid critics that they can talk to him ‘when they win’ in a brutal response to people from the Spanish capital saying that he is ‘cocky’ and full of himself.
Barcelona won the Copa del Rey with a 3-2 win against Los Blancos. The Catalan side were 2-1 down going into the last 10 minutes, but goals from Ferran Torres in the 84th minute and Jules Kounde in the 116th secured the trophy for them.
The winger set up two of the goals in the final and when asked for his response to his critics saying he is ‘cocky’, Yamal said: “If they win, then they can say something to me.”
Yamal could play his 100th game for Barcelona against Inter on Wednesday evening. When Lionel Messi was at the same age he had only made seven appearances, but the teenager still does not compare himself to the Argentine great.
“I do not compare myself to him because I do not compare myself to anyone, much less Messi, so I leave that to you,” he added.
“I just think about improving every day to be better than I was the day before. I do not think that that comparison makes sense, even more so with Messi. I try to enjoy, be myself and make my own path.
“I admire him as the best player in history but I do not compare myself with him.
The Spaniard is only 17 yet has already won some of the biggest competitions in football, including the Euros last year. He spoke about playing without fear despite being so young.
“No I do not have fear because if I did I would not post anything on Instagram, so no I do not have fear,” he clarified.
“I do not have fear but I do have motivation and butterflies in my stomach before a game but I think that is good. We all have it as players, but fear….. I left that in the park in Mataro a while ago.”
