Spain have named a 26-player World Cup squad, with Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams included despite late-season injuries, as Luis de la Fuente unveiled his list on Monday.

According to L'Équipe, the Barcelona winger injured his left hamstring after converting a penalty against Celta Vigo on 22 April, and he is not certain to play Spain's openers against Cape Verde on 15 June and Saudi Arabia on 21 June. Midfielder Mikel Merino is also in after a right foot fracture in late January, having returned for Arsenal at Crystal Palace, 2-1.

There are few surprises. Barcelona's Joan Garcia is preferred to Alex Remiro among the goalkeepers, joining Unai Simon and David Raya. In central defence, Atlético's Marc Pubill receives his first senior call alongside Aymeric Laporte, Pau Cubarsi and Eric Garcia, who is back for the first time since 2022. Atlético's Robin Le Normand and Real Madrid defender Dean Huijsen miss out.

In midfield, Gavi, limited to one minute with the national team in the past two and a half years due to injuries, travels, as does PSG's Fabian Ruiz after knee trouble. In attack, the recent injury to Fermin Lopez opens the door for Crystal Palace winger Yeremy Pino.

For the first time in history, Spain have named a World Cup squad without a Real Madrid player, a scenario previously seen at Euro 2020. Barcelona supply eight players. La Seleccion will play Iraq in La Coruña on 4 June and Peru four days later in Puebla, Mexico.
